Based on the situation analysis, the learning process and learning media used in learning English, especially vocabulary in class fourth of SD AL-Madina Wonosobo is still not optimal and tends to be monotonous. The limited learning media makes the English learning process tend to use the teacher-method and most of the English learning in the classroom is done by the teacher using textbooks as learning resources. Teachers only teach with the teacher-lecture method and assignments. Current learning tends to use the old method of memorization. This research has three objectives, namely: to find out the effectiveness of using alert snake and ladder game in overcoming vocabulary learning that tends to be monotonous, to find out whether alert snake and ladder game is effective in increasing English vocabulary of grade IV pupils, and to find out whether the use of alert snake and ladder game can overcome boredom during the learning process and foster pupils' learning motivation. This research is an experiment research with a quantitative approach to test the effectiveness of using alert snake and ladder game in increasing pupils' English vocabulary. This research used pre-test and post-test as data collection tools. The results showed that the alert snake and ladder game is effective to be used for fourth grade elementary school pupils in vocabulary increase, by comparing the learning outcomes of pupils in the control class and the experiment class through the post-test.
